Resurgence roundup, 2/22/13
Sail through the flood of information with our weekly Resurgence Roundups. Each Friday, we will share a list of articles across ministry tribes that our team has found helpful with the hope of serving you well.
1. “God doesn’t need our help,” by James K.A. Smith
We do not have to dumb down the gospel or make it more palatable to be believed. God calls us to faithfully proclaim the gospel (Matt. 28:19; Mark 16:15; Col. 1:23). He does not call us to engender faith and hope in others. That’s his role and gift to us (Eph. 2:5, 8–9).
2. “Pray for Daisy,” by Kate Merrick
Our hearts were broken when we heard the news that Pastor Britt Merrick’s eight-year-old daughter, Daisy Love, lost her battle with cancer, but we rejoice that she is free from pain and experiencing insurmountable bliss and joy with Jesus. We encourage all of our readers to heed the final request of Daisy’s mom, Kate.
3. “Tebow Cancels Talk at Controversial Dallas Church,” by the AP
Tim Tebow called an audible and backed out of his speaking engagement at First Baptist in Dallas.
5. “Stop procrastinating!” by Rick Warren
All of us have procrastinated at some point in our life while some live a life of procrastination. To help you combat procrastination, Rick Warren summarizes five steps from the Bible you can take.
6. “Angry atheists again,” by Michael Horton
One of the biggest objections to religion is that there are so many competing truth claims. How can each claim to be right? Religious detractors argue that this is in sharp contrast to science, which is based on facts upon which any rational person can agree. How do we handle this objection?
7. “Follow his lead,” by Crawford Loritts
Do you follow God with your plans or are you asking God to follow you? Here Dr. Loritts shares three pertinent reminders from Exodus 13:21–22 in following God’s lead in your life.
8. “What do I do if my child is looking at pornography?” by Sherry Allchin
If you’re a parent it’s important to know that the average age of a child’s first exposure to pornography is 11 years old and can be as low as 8. To help you answer this question, Sherry Allchin (with the Biblical Counseling Coalition) provides some practical steps you can take to help your child.
