Resurgence roundup, 4/19/13
Sail through the flood of information with our weekly Resurgence Roundups. Each Friday, we will share a list of articles across ministry tribes that our team has found helpful with the hope of serving you well.
“Shea, the soundtrack of salvation, dies at age 104,” by Whitney Williams
This week we said goodbye to George Beverly “Bev” Shea. Shea spent the majority of his life serving alongside Billy Graham during his evangelist crusades and was considered at one time “America’s beloved gospel singer.” He lived a life with a faith worth imitating.
“The world of Kuo,” by Andrew Sullivan
Sullivan, editor of the Dish, thoughtfully and graciously shares his first experience on evangelical Christianity after attending a mega-church for the funeral service of his good friend, David Kuo. He writes, “The work [the pastors] do for the poor, the starving, and the marginalized in their own communities and across the world remains a testimony to the enduring power of Christ’s resurrection.”
“A final wrap-up,” by Thabiti Anyabwile and Douglas Wilson
Anyabwile and Wilson recently engaged in an extended public debate over the issues of slavery and the Civil War. Their interactions with each other were full of grace and mercy and serve as a model for us in how we should conduct ourselves with others whom we disagree with. With this last post, they recap their agreements and differences, and encourage us all to disagree charitably.
“Faith and mercy: Who among us is most likely to forgive?” by David Briggs
New research confirms what has been recorded in the Bible for 2,0oo years: people who believe a loving and gracious God has forgiven them are more likely to forgive others and themselves (see Eph. 4:32). Research also indicates that there are mental and physical benefits to extending forgiveness.
“The legacy of John Piper in the lives of real people,” by Marshall Segall
