Last week we started wrapping up our second theme on the blog, Know the Bible. The Bible is hands down the most important book ever written. Within its pages we find everything we need to know about God—what he is like, what he asks of us, and how we can enter into a personal relationship with him through faith in Jesus Christ. Needless to say, the way we study, interpret, and apply its message influences our entire life.

Since we could have gone on for an eternity covering the possible topics in this series, we knew we would have to finish it one day, and here we are. So without any further ado, let us introduce you to our next theme: “What I wish I known about _________.”

“D’oh! If only I _____.”

If you haven’t said this to yourself or someone else, then you’re probably not old enough.

This is a statement that comes with time. It comes with living life. Experiencing ups and downs. It’s something that comes with age and wisdom. “Yes, I learned from what I said and did.”

But let’s face it: we’re human.

We’re going to make mistakes, unwise choices, have no clue at times, or even worse, think that we know it all. This is all a part of living life and growing up.

Yes, we know. “Gasp!” is probably your response.

Don’t worry.

This is a common way of responding after being splashed in the face with the cold water of reality.

Though life is tough, God’s grace is enough. Not only does God give us grace in our life to help us live for him, he doesn’t leave us alone.

He is personally involved in our life, he inspired the Bible to reveal himself and guide us, he fills us with his Spirit to lead us, and he provides us with godly counsel to help us along the way.

Godly counsel is a blessing from God.

If you are foolish, you will ignore godly advice. If you are wise, you will listen (Prov. 12:15). Because you know that applying the acquired wisdom from the counsel of others will help you:

• Gain wisdom (Prov. 19:20–21
• Find safety (Prov. 11:14)
• Succeed in your plans (Prov. 15:22)
• Find the key to victory (Prov. 24:6)
