Pastor Mark and Grace Driscoll Want to Speak at Your Church

The Real Marriage Tour is coming up February 21–22. Anyone anywhere can participate.

The one-and-only Real Marriage event of 2014 is less than one month away. Pastor Mark and Grace Driscoll will be speaking live from Roseville, CA, but anyone with an Internet connection can sign up and join in.

For churches looking to organize a dating and marriage event around Valentine’s Day, Real Marriage is a ready-made option. The content is taken care of; all you need to do is provide the space.

One church that has decided to take advantage of this opportunity is Park Church in Long Beach, CA. We asked Pastor Jeff Ludington to tell us about his congregation and why he decided to host a Real Marriage simulcast.

Tell us a little about Park Church.

Pastor Jeff: Park Church is a 60-year-old church that suffered through decades of decline and struggle. We are currently in our third year of a re-launch and are finally seeing some amazing change. When we started three years ago, the church was about 140 people, of which 90 percent were in their 70s, 80s, and 90s.

Today we are fully multi-generational and becoming far more multi-cultural. We have spent the last three years aiming at a vision that embraces Christ’s mission and reaches young families. We are excited about the Real Marriage series, as it focuses on the life issues that many of our young families need.

For churches looking to organize a dating and marriage event around Valentine’s Day, Real Marriage is a ready-made option.

How did you decide to join the Real Marriage simulcast?

Pastor Jeff: I have known Pastor Mark for a few years, and I have appreciated his heart for the family and especially his and Grace’s emphasis on strong marriages. We have wanted (on more than one occasion) to host him live for a Real Marriage event, but our church doesn’t seat enough to really host him. The live simulcast is a great way to have a “live feel” with our size church. We now get to host a live conference, for an affordable price, and do it in the comfort of our own church.

Is there anything in particular you’re hoping God does through this event at your church?

Pastor Jeff: Real Marriage is a great opportunity for us because we have such a diverse church. Since we have many widows and widowers, as well as many senior-aged couples, doing a normal teaching series aimed at marriages is difficult. I have been married for much less time than many others in our church (Lisa and I will celebrate 15 years in a couple months!). With that in mind, it is awkward for me to speak to couples in my congregation who have been married for longer than I have been alive! Having Pastor Mark speak to them as a pastor and author works great for us.

Any words or ideas for other churches thinking about hosting the simulcast?

Pastor Jeff: There are two options we considered. One was the “on demand” option, and the other was the live simulcast. We decided to do the live version due to wanting to provide a two-day event, almost like a local retreat, for our marriages. Either way (live or on-demand), I think this is a great way to do something really cost effective for our marriages, and even our dating and engaged couples.
