Are you a teacher?

Mark Driscoll » Scripture

Once someone has taken the time to study and meditate upon Scripture, they are then most fit to teach it to others accurately, passionately, and practically. Just as every Christian should meditate upon Scripture, so every Christian is a teacher of Scripture.

Everyone is a Teacher

The Scriptures speak of teaching very broadly and in many forms. Elders are formally appointed male senior leaders and teachers in the church (1 Timothy 3:1–2). Those with the gift of teaching who are approved by the elders also have formal teaching ministries in the church (1 Corinthians 12:28). Parents are also supposed to be teachers, as is illustrated throughout Proverbs, where the mother and father continually instruct their children in wisdom. Furthermore, in some sense, every Christian is to be a teacher who imparts biblical truth into the lives of others. For example, Colossians 3:16 is directed to an entire church: “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.”

In Conclusion

Those who meditate upon Scripture will see God continually giving them opportunities to share what the Holy Spirit has taught them with others for their strengthening and encouragement.
